I’ve been in education for more than two decades. I spent my first years as a teacher and 15 more as an assistant principal and principal in K-8 schools. I have a doctorate in education with a specialty in inclusion—which in an educational context means making sure children with special needs have the tools and support they need to succeed in a mainstream classroom.
I’m also a mom of three wonderful children, two boys and one girl. One of my sons is on the autism spectrum and my daughter is legally blind. Therefore, getting kids the help they need has been both a personal and a professional journey for me.
Being a tutor, I have rewarding opportunities to watch kids who fear school and feel like giving up becoming thriving contributors to a classroom. When the obstacles to confidence are removed for these
kids, they begin to find joy in learning and being with their school friends during the day. I find tutoring therapeutic for kids and families alike.
I consider myself to be a patient agent of change in my students’ lives. There’s nothing quite like the moment when a child first begins to blossom.
